Associate, K&L Gates LLP
Aritha is an associate in the London office of international law firm K&L Gates, where he’s a member of their Banking and Finance practice group. Before joining K&L Gates, he was an associate at the London headquarters of magic circle law firm Clifford Chance. Prior to becoming a finance lawyer, he worked at the Chambers of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Tanzania.
Aritha is very active in the field of diversity and inclusion and has spearheaded a number of initiatives promoting equality and human rights. He advises lawyers across the Commonwealth challenging laws that criminalise homosexuality, was instrumental in lobbying for the Transgender Equality Inquiry by the Women and Equalities Committee of the British Parliament and successfully negotiated with the EU to include LGBT rights as a condition for Sri Lanka to gain preferential market access into the single market. He is a founding trustee of THINK EQUAL, a UN endorsed initiative on introducing a global curriculum based on equality and human rights and also heads the LGBT division of iProbono – a global platform connecting individuals and organisations requiring pro bono legal help with nearly 60,000 lawyers across the world.
Aritha was ranked #1 in the Financial Times 2015 OUTstanding list of Top 30 LGBT Future Leaders.
