Neil is the former Deputy Director-General and Chief Operating Officer of the CBI, the UK’s premier business lobby. He was responsible for UK and international operations, business planning and working with business leaders to represent their interests nationally and internationally to governments around the world. He has worked across a range of public policy areas, including energy and climate change, infrastructure investment, public service reform and employment.
Neil is deputy chair of Stonewall, the UK’s leading charity for LGB rights. He also sits on a taskforce for the British Academy to boost the learning of foreign languages, the advisory group of the Science Council for promoting diversity in the sciences and the international advisory board of the Carbon Trust, the sustainability organisation. Neil’s doctorate was in the attitude of German trade unions to racism in the workplace.
